Quality Workmanship

From Stage To Workshop – Rob Morgan's Story

Rob Morgan's journey from musician to master repairer is a testament to his dedication and passion for music. Starting as a professional musician with the Corps Staff Band of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Rob's fascination with instrument mechanics led him to train in woodwind repair at the Boosey & Hawkes workshop in Aldershot and in brass repair under Rick McQueeny at McQueens Musical Instruments in Manchester. This unique blend of performance and technical expertise laid the foundation for his future endeavours.

After his military service, Rob honed his skills at Merton College, South Wimbledon, specialising in woodwind, brass, and non-fretted instruments. In 1997, he established his repair business in the Upper Swansea Valley, earning the trust of numerous brass bands and music services across South Wales. His meticulous craftsmanship became widely recognised, leading to collaborations with esteemed ensembles.

Relocating to Surrey in 2016, Rob re-established his workshop in 2018, extending his services to the local musical community. His commitment to excellence also led him to freelance as an Instrument Technician for Conn-Selmer Europe, focusing on quality control and warranty repairs. Looking ahead, Rob plans to expand his expertise to include bow re-hairing and string instrument repairs, continually adapting to the evolving needs of musicians.

Rob's journey reflects a seamless blend of performance artistry and technical mastery, ensuring that each instrument he touches resonates with its fullest potential.
